Embedded Electronic Systems Design and
Development Engineer Degree Apprenticeship
Level 6
This apprenticeship programme is suitable for aspiring engineers and for those who already work in
engineering wanting to expand and certify their expertise to a degree level standard. Apprentices apply
the theoretical knowledge of electronics and embedded software to the design of circuits or devices
capable of being manufactured at a competitive cost. The combination of theory and practical
experience ensures apprentices are fully equipped for a successful career in electrical engineering.
This degree apprenticeship pathway is ideal for engineers working
in a wide range of sectors who rely on embedded systems design,
including telecommunications, information and computer technology,
defence, energy (including renewables), transport and consumer
electronics.
A range of knowledge, skills and behaviours are covered including
designing functional electronic systems and circuits from component
level, writing and documenting structured code to comply with
industry norms, mathematical modelling, developing a logical
approach, developing problem-solving skills and being a team player.
The apprenticeship is delivered over five years, with the first three
years spent at Gloucestershire College and the remaining two years
at UWE, Bristol.
Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs at grade 9 - 4 or A* - C including maths, English and science,
technology or engineering related subjects and A Levels at grade C
or above in both a mathematical based subject and a science, tech,
engineering or additional mathematics related subject, or 90+ credits
in an Engineering BTEC. Learners must have the equivalent to 112
UCAS points.
Career Paths
Demand for graduates with expertise in electrical and electronic
engineering is high. On graduation, you can build a successful career
designing electrical and electronic systems; working on consumer
technology; or solving engineering problems for communications and
power generation/distribution companies.
