Graphic Design is a dynamic, industry-related course that provides learners with a strong grounding
in design theory and technique. You will engage in building a range of skills in disciplines such as
animation, web design, branding, advertising, motion graphics, page layouts and packaging, as well
as have the opportunity to develop a professional design-related portfolio.
"The College offers excellent art and design studios and workshop
space to work in. The studios are large and spacious. The standard of
the equipment for Graphic Design is well planned and there is an Apple
Mac available for every student. There are effective links with industry.
Workshops and visiting speakers are regularly invited into college to

This programme is a two-year Higher National Diploma (HND) Level 5
course, which is the equivalent of the first two years of a degree
programme. On completion of the first year (at Higher National
Certificate Level 4), accreditation can be claimed. This Pearson
Education accredited course is fast-paced and has strong industry
links, and you'll be encouraged to pitch for industry experience with
companies and design agencies. Experienced staff teach 16 units in
a state-of-the-art studio environment. All students should have the
opportunity to undertake a range of live projects across a variety of
creative disciplines.
In industry, employed graphic designers work 9am to 5pm, or longer
to meet deadlines; freelance hours will vary. Work is studio or officebased, with visits
to clients and printers. As a guide, graphic design
graduates might start on a salary of £18,000, with experienced
designers earning £20,000 to £35,000 or more.
Entry Requirements
Entry to Year 1 (HNC) requires a minimum tariff of 48 UCAS points.
Direct entry onto Year 2 (HND) requires a Higher National Certificate
PASS (120 Credits) in a comparable and relevant subject.
Gloucestershire College welcome other/combinations of equivalent
and relevant qualifications that meet the typical course entry
requirements.
Applicants who do not have recognised qualifications may still meet
course entry requirements through alternative methods of assessment
at the College's discretion.
