HNC/HTQ
The new Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) in Computing provides a solid grounding in computing,
vendor-accredited qualifications and professional body membership. It offers a range of general and
specialist study units to suit your choice of programme and future progression plans.
The Computing HTQ has been designed to provide all you need to
establish or further your career in IT and computing, with the ability to
specialise in:
• Cyber Security
• Software Engineering
• Network Engineering
It is taught using a mixture of practical and theoretical assignment
briefs so that you can develop your chosen skills. Where possible
we use 'live' scenarios and topics, including those provided by
local businesses. The College offers excellent computing resources,
including our own departmental network and a wide range of
professional software and hardware resources.
Modules include; Programming; Networking; Professional Practice;
Database Design and Development; Security; Planning a Computing
Project, and Software development lifecycles.
Depending on your chosen pathway, you will also choose two
options from the following: Network management; Network
Security; Forensics; Internet of Things; Cloud Computing; Emerging
Technologies; Application development. The exact combination of
units delivered can be discussed with you during the application
stage.
Entry Requirements
Entry to Year 1 requires a minimum tariff of 48 UCAS points.
Entry to Year 2 requires a Higher National Certificate Pass (120 Credits)
in a comparable and relevant subject.
Gloucestershire College welcome other/combinations of equivalent
and relevant qualifications that meet the typical course entry
requirements. Applicants who do not have recognised qualifications
may still meet course entry requirements through alternative methods
of assessment at the College's discretion.
