Degree Apprenticeship
You can gain an integrated degree with UWE at Gloucestershire College. This apprenticeship will give you
the skills to work in business or technology/engineering functions across a range of sectors of
the economy, including critical national infrastructure (such as energy, transport, water, finance), public
and private, large and small organisations.
This apprenticeship will help you work with a considerable degree of
autonomy and give you the skills to lead teams that research, analyse,
model, assess and manage cyber security risks; design, develop,
justify, manage and operate secure solutions; and detect and respond
to incidents. You'll learn how to work in accordance with applicable
laws, regulation, standards and ethics.
The apprenticeship will cover the following core areas:
• Foundations of cybersecurity
• Network foundations
• Information management
• Computer architecture
• Operating system principles
• Algorithm and program design
• Malware, threats and defensive programming
• Risk assessment
• Security assurance
• Legal, regulatory, compliance and standards
The first year will cover Programming; Web and Database
Development; Operating Systems and Architecture; Networking;
Information Security; Computer Law, and Ethics. Following that, you'll
learn Mathematics and Algorithms; Cryptography; Operating System
Security; Risk Management; Information Management and Big Data;
Cyber Threats, and Intelligence and Incident Response. Finally, in
your third year you'll build upon your skills in Security Assurance;
Ethical Hacking and Penetration Testing; Security Case Development;
Mobile and Internet of Things Security; Malware Analysis and Reverse
Engineering; Cyber Professionalism, and Reflective Practice. Your
fourth year will comprise workplace projects, portfolio preparation
and an end point assessment.
For the duration of the apprenticeship, technical competencies will
be assessed in the workplace. These will include: building networks
and digital systems, writing programs, analysing malware, identifying
threats, undertaking risk assessments, designing secure systems and
managing intrusion responses.
Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs including English and maths grade 9 - 4 or A*- C and 3 A
Levels including maths.
