This is a higher education course focusing on production, composition and recording of music, specific
audio/music software training, studio application, live sound set-up and mixing techniques. The course
will help students with previous experience to develop skills for a variety of industries and help you to
prepare for freelance employment and/or continuing education at higher levels.
This course focuses on the practical use of recording equipment and
theory within fully-resourced analogue and digital recording studios
and post-production suites. Students are taught production techniques
across a range of musical styles and genres using Logic, ProTools,
Sibelius and third party software, including specific UAD Processing.
You will study the practice and theory of composition and sound
production for film, television and interactive media; studio and
live sound engineering techniques and practices, and undertake
musicological research.
The College offers excellent facilities, as well as specialist and
passionate staff with industry experience. The course aims to develop
your skills and knowledge, and help you prepare for employment,
freelance work and/or continuing education at degree level. You can
choose between a range of pathways to specialise in for your second
year. This programme is a two-year Higher National Diploma Level
5 course, which is the equivalent of the first two years of a degree
programme. On completion of the first year (at Higher National
Certificate Level 4) accreditation can be claimed. Year 2 offers specific
focused pathways such as Artist Development or Production.
This course is fast paced and professional, with modules covering a mix
of studio production, DAW production, studio recording, studio and live
engineering, aural criticism, musicological research, interactive media,
