Who is 'Access' for
and what do I need
to apply?
The Access course is designed for mature students (over
the age of 19) and is not intended to be an alternative route
to University Level for students who have recently studied A
Levels or a similar course. It is recommended that students
have at least one year out of formal education before
applying.
Entry requirements:
Although you do not need to have any existing qualifications, all
applicants will take two written tests to demonstrate a standard
of English equivalent to Level 2 (GCSE grade 4) and numeracy
skills equivalent to Level 1 (or Level 2 for those looking to study
higher maths or physics).
Most UK universities require GCSE English and/or maths at
grade 4 or above, so if you do not have these already you may
complete one of them as part of the Access course to enable you to
progress. If your first language is not English, you will need a full
ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Level 2 or
equivalent, such as IELTS (International English Language Testing
System).
Close links to University of Bristol
The course has close links with the University of Bristol and is a part
of the Access to Bristol scheme; it allows our students for any of the
University of Bristol courses (including Medicine; Veterinary Science
and Dentistry) to take advantage of attending University of Bristol
one afternoon a week for six weeks and, on completion, students are
guaranteed a contextualised (lower than usual) offer/interview with the
university.
By attending, you will get an idea of what it is like to study at the
University of Bristol, working with academics and current students who
can offer advice and guidance about their subject area.
Representatives from the University of Bristol will attend our induction days
in September and you will have the opportunity to meet them and discuss
the scheme.
