Although apprentices
work hard, they have a
massive head start over
university graduates
because of the work
experience element. It
makes it so much easier
to secure a job
afterwards. Not to
mention, apprenticeships
help to save money and
offer a more financially
stable future.

Introduction: Apprenticeships
Finley Walker
Software Tester Level 4
Apprenticeship
"I applied for university, but when I
realised that an apprenticeship would
give me the same qualification, zero debt
and more work experience, I chose it over
uni.
I joined Renishaw as a Software Tester
apprentice and never looked back. I get
to break software that controls massive
robots and then go back to a developer
with solid steps to reproduce and show
them how I did it. It's different to every
other job I've seen.
One of the good things about
apprenticeships is networking. I get to
meet people from different departments,
as well as GC lecturers and other
apprentices.
Renishaw care about their staff and treat
apprentices as real employees. They were
always there for me if I needed help.
Renishaw have kept me on and I am
working on R&D projects having bigger
responsibilities, more independence and
exciting projects."
