Information for
Parents and
Guardians As young people come into their final year of school they are faced with
a huge number of options: A Levels, BTECs, T Levels and apprenticeships
- it's no wonder so many feel confused! One of their biggest decisions
is whether to remain in the school environment they know or to step out
into the undiscovered world of college.
In some ways school and college are similar. Students are expected
to behave in a responsible and mature way; attendance for classes is
compulsory and students are expected to meet deadlines for submission
of work.
But the difference at GC is that we pride ourselves on helping students
become both university and work-ready, with facilities designed to reflect
real workplaces. Naturally this leads to a greater 'feel' of independence
and autonomy which so many of our students love.
At Gloucestershire College we have the latest equipment in our
engineering and construction centres; professional catering kitchens
and commercial restaurants; hair and beauty salons open to the public;
fashion and photography studios; a motor vehicle workshop; recording
studios; theatres; Mac suites and more.
Your young person is unique and needs to make the choice that suits
them. It's important that prospective students take every opportunity to
familiarise themselves with the environment and expectations before
starting - so do come along to our open events (see page 7).
We have prepared a selection of the questions parents ask most
frequently. If you have a specific question you would like answered
please feel free to get in touch.
My young person can't decide whether to go to college or to stay on at school.
Can they decide after they have got their GCSE results what they would like to
do?
We start processing applications from the start of October 2023 through to 31
March 2024. Applications received after 31 March 2024 will still be considered,
although places on popular courses may be limited. We advise you to apply as
early as possible, even if you have other options, to have the best chance of
securing a place on their chosen course.
For more information, visit our website or call our Admissions or
Student Support teams on 0345 155 2020.
What happens after my young person has applied?
All applicants will receive a conditional offer based on achieving/evidencing
they meet the entry requirements of the course and level applied for. We will
send them useful information throughout their applicant journey to support
them in their decision. Although they can apply for as many courses as they
like, we do ask that they accept the conditional offer for their first-choice
course. Further information about their journey can be found at: gloscol.ac.uk
What happens next?
They will receive communication and instructions on how to complete our
online enrolment, including confirming additional personal details and
uploading qualifications, results slips or certificates. Many of our applicants
will be awaiting results in July/August, so we will be able to confirm their
place once we receive their results during online enrolment. This takes
place before the start date of your course, usually in the last week of
August and the first week of September.
Whatever their personal circumstances or results, our Admissions Team
will work with you to support their next steps. If you have any queries or
concerns, email applications@gloscol.ac.uk
